Before paying for an Alibaba order, confirm what the seller will deliver and where its responsibility ends. Product purchasing, international transport, import clearance and delivery are separate pieces of work. A seller’s price may cover some of them; the written quotation should say which ones.
A buyer in an archived Bahrain discussion expected delivery to be as simple as entering an address, then asked whether a shipping agent was needed. That question is a useful starting point for a first-import checklist. It does not establish that every Alibaba purchase needs a separately appointed forwarder.
Ask the supplier for a shipment brief
Request the collection location, cargo-ready date, package count, packed dimensions, gross weight and product description. Confirm what documents the supplier will provide. Ask for the agreed delivery term and named place in writing, and ask the seller to explain what is excluded.
Photos and product-page dimensions are useful context, but they do not replace the packed measurements needed for a transport quotation.
Define the forwarder’s assignment
Ask whether the quotation includes pickup, receiving, consolidation, international transport and final delivery. If several suppliers are involved, clarify how incoming cartons are matched to your order and what happens if one supplier is late. Confirm the process for inspecting packaging or approving repacking before those services are carried out.
Compare providers against the same brief. Record charges, exclusions, quotation validity and responsibility for additional costs.
Confirm the importer and customs agent
Bahrain’s official Customs Authorization Services page describes services for companies to issue and manage authorisations for clearing agencies and check their status. Establish who will act as importer and who will carry out the declaration. The presence of an authorisation service does not establish that a transport quotation includes customs clearance.
Ask the appointed agent to confirm the documents and approvals applicable to the actual goods. This guide does not provide a universal tax rate or a complete legal checklist.
Check the handover before dispatch
Keep the approved order, packing information, transport scope and responsible contacts together. Confirm who can approve shipment and how missing documents or packaging discrepancies will be handled. This creates a clearer handover between supplier, transporter and consignee.
