Build a complete request
Provide the product description, quantity, supplier location and final receiving address. Include gross weight and packed dimensions where known, and flag batteries, liquids or other special goods.
Define the work at origin
Agree whether the scope includes supplier collection, warehouse receiving, quality checks, consolidation, repacking or temporary storage. Inspection means the checks expressly agreed for your order.
Confirm before dispatch
Your shipment-specific quotation should identify the transport option, estimated schedule, included services, excluded charges and delivery handover. A request does not reserve capacity or guarantee a transit time.
Compare the full handover, not only the sea leg
LCL means less-than-container-load: your goods are assessed for a shared-container movement. Compare offers using the same final packages and receiving address. Ask which origin receiving, packing, consolidation, destination release and delivery activities are included. If a charge is payable to another party, identify that party and the basis for the amount before comparing totals.
Example: two suppliers with different ready dates
Illustrative planning example, not a customer shipment: one supplier has boxed fittings ready while another is still finishing a cabinet. Ask for a plan that waits for both and an alternative that releases the ready order. Identify any storage, extra handling or separate destination charges in each option. Keep the supplier references on the packing list so the receiving team can match the two orders after consolidation.
Explain how the cargo can be handled
State which packages can be stacked and which must stay upright. Give the dimensions after palletising or crating, including any projections. Do not mark cargo stackable simply to request a lower price; ask the supplier to confirm what the packaging can withstand. If the final package sizes are pending, treat the first assessment as provisional and request confirmation once the packing list is complete.
